Three parts of PTE Academic Exam

Part 1: Speaking & Writing

29-30 Minutes | 7 Question Type

This part will test your English speaking and writing skills. The test includes short to long range answer requirements based on the question type. You’ll be tested on 7 different question types:

  • Personal Introduction (Not marked)
  • Repeat Sentence
  • Answer Short Question
  • Read Aloud
  • Describe Image
  • Summarize Written Text
  • Re-tell Lecture
  • Essay

Part 2: Reading

29-30 Minutes | 5 Question Types

This part will test your ability to read academic English including writing skills in one item type (Fill in the blanks). You’ll be tested on 5 different question types:

  • Reading & Writing: Fill in the Blanks
  • Fill in the Blanks
  • Multiple Choice, Single Answer
  • Re-order Paragraphs
  • Multiple Choice, Multiple Answer

Part 3: Listening

30-43 Minutes | 8 Question Types

This part will test your English listening and understanding skills along with your writing and reading skills. The questions are audio and video-based. You are also allowed to take notes as the audio and videos play. You’ll be tested on 8 different question types:

  • Summarize Spoken Text
  • Highlight Correct Summary
  • Highlight Incorrect Words
  • Multiple Choice, Multiple Answers
  • Multiple Choice, Single Answer
  • Write from Dictation
  • Fill in the Blanks
  • Select Missing Word
